I’ve been researching thermostats for a while now. They are, after all, the best way to save on energy expenses. I like being comfortable in my own home, but I don’t want to spend too much on heating bills. This is why I’ve decided to find the best wifi thermostat for my heating system. One of the thermostats I’ve tried so far is the Nest Learning Thermostat.
Since I know choosing between so many different products can be tough, I’ve decided to review this one. In the following paragraphs you’ll find out about both its pros and cons. I hope it will help you come to an informed decision. To start, I’ll say something about the Nest Learning Thermostat’s general characteristics.
The Nest Learning Thermostat I’m reviewing is also called the 3rd Generation. This is because it’s an improved version of the original product. It’s manufactured by the Nest Company.
The thermostat is compatible with most heating and cooling systems with 24V power. This includes heat pump, gas, forced air, electric, radiant, hot water, oil, geothermal and solar systems.
The Nest Learning Thermostat seems to provide a combination of functionality and simplicity of design. Its display screen is of a high resolution, and the whole product looks really nice.
Pros of Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd
Auto-Schedule: If you don’t like having to program your thermostat, you’re going to love this feature. It allows the device to learn from your everyday habits. After a while, it starts programming itself. This is especially great for people with hectic lives. It’s also the reason why they called it the Learning Thermostat.
Auto-Away: This is another helpful feature. It’s also one of my favorites. It allows you to stop worrying about spending too much energy. Auto-Away will adjust the temperature depending on whether you’re inside the house or away. This will prevent you from heating empty rooms.
Remote control: If you download the Nest app, you’ll be able to control the thermostat remotely. This means you can regulate the temperature even while you’re at work or on a trip. It also allows you to check energy history. To keep you from worrying, the app will send a message if your house gets too cold or too hot.
Reliable WiFi: The Nest Learning Thermostat has a reliable Wi-Fi connection. This is important when it comes to products like this. A thermostat can function perfectly, but this doesn’t mean anything if you can’t connect it to the Internet. Not all thermostats have good connections, but this one has.
Nest Leaf: This is another one of my favorites. Since I’m trying to save energy not just to spend less money, I find it very helpful. This is how it works. First you choose a temperature. Then the device tells you whether that setting saves energy. If it does, you’ll see a green leaf on the display. It’s a great way of guiding you towards conserving energy in general.
Cons of Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd
Battery charging: This is one of the only two disadvantages I’ve managed to find. It seems that the Nest Learning Thermostat needs the heating system running to charge its batteries. This means it’ll spend energy even when there’s no need for heating. This doesn’t bother me, but I can see why it might annoy some people.
Temperature display: The Nest Learning Thermostat sometimes refuses to show the current temperature. When you set it to a certain temperature, that’s the only one you’re able to see. It’s not that big of a disadvantage, but I’m trying to provide a complete review.
How to use
Using the Nest Learning Thermostat is as easy as it can possibly be. After connecting it to your heating system, you’ll be given plenty of guidance. The device will ask you a lot of questions. You’ll first have to select a language. Then you’ll connect it to the Internet. After that, you’ll be asked to answer questions about your heating system, habits and preferences. It’ll feel like the thermostat is doing all the work for you.
The Nest Learning Thermostat doesn’t need much maintenance. It needs to be kept dry at all times. This is important if you want to prevent it from malfunctioning. But apart from this, there’s no need to worry. The thermostat will charge itself, and it’s pretty durable as well.
Although this thermostat is a tough little device, things can happen. This is why it comes with a 2-year limited warranty. It’s provided directly by the manufacturer. The warranty will cover any expenses you might have for replacing parts. It doesn’t, however, cover labor.
I believe the Nest Learning Thermostat is one of the best wifi thermotat. Although it has its downsides, they’re significantly outweighed by the upsides. I particularly like the fact it learns your habits and preferences. I’m also impresses by the way it guides you to maximum energy saving. I’d give it a 4.8, and that’s just because it doesn’t show current temperature.Related posts:
